This course examines how conscious and unconscious bias can affect the way real estate professionals interact with clients and provide access to housing. Students will consider how their assumptions, words, body language, and business practices may be perceived by others. Topics include:

The difference between conscious and unconscious bias and discriminationThe history and legacy of segregation and its impact on housing

Fair housing laws, protected classes, and practices such as steering, blockbusting, and redlining

How bias may affect interactions with buyers, sellers, landlords, and tenants

Practical steps agents can take to recognize bias and provide consistent, fair service to every client

Through discussion and self-assessment, participants will consider how to make positive changes in their daily interactions and business practices.
